To provide an overview of intellectual property rights, its impact on creators and potential innovators. The café aims to explore consequences stemming from the lack of intellectual property knowledge amongst creators and innovators especially those from marginalised groups. Furthermore, it seeks to analyse and understand trends in the filing of intellectual property rights in South Africa. Ultimately, the café aims to identify social injustices present in the field of intellectual property, as well as identifying any intellectual property related transformation aimed at addressing disparities faced by marginalised groups.

About the Chair:

Professor Thulisile “Thuli” Madonsela, an advocate of the High Court of South Africa, heads the Centre for Social Justice and is a law professor at the University of Stellenbosch, where she conducts and coordinates social justice research and teaches constitutional and administrative law.
