Prof Thuli Madonsela, Law Trust Chair in Social Justice at Stellenbosch University, is calling for nominations from the public to find South Africa’s Social Justice Champion of the Year for 2022. The competition is organised by the Council of Social Justice Champions in collaboration with Champion South Africa, founded by well-known media personality Ashraf Garda. It’s the third year that the competition is held and last year, Dr Imtiaz Sooliman of Gift of the Givers was the proud winner of the Social Justice Champion Award for 2021. The main aim of the annual Social Justice Champion drive is to identify a South African that is making a positive difference in the lives of others. With this initiative, the Council of Social Justice Champions wants to honour a community builder whose work is closing the inequality gap in our country. The 2022 winner will be announced at the Annual Social Justice Summit on 12 October 2022 and will receive an award as well as the opportunity to dine with Prof Madonsela.

DO YOU KNOW A SOCIAL JUSTICE CHAMPION?

A Social Justice Champion is someone who works hard to open the doors of access and opportunity for everyone, particularly those in the greatest need. Such a person dedicates him- or herself to advancing equality and reducing suffering. It is an individual who has shown a commitment to justice for all, while also inspiring others to pull together to bring about positive change.
