Post-doctoral fellowship in social justice research: 1 September 2024 - 31 August 2025
Are you interested in pursuing further research on social justice, including gender, race and disability equality and poverty studies, incorporating human rights?
The Faculty of Law has a post-doctoral fellowship available. The fellowship is awarded for a year under the fellowship Centre for Social Justice (CSJ), incorporating the Law Trust Research Chair on Social Justice. The primary responsibility of the successful applicant will be to conduct research in a preferred social justice theme within the CSJ, whose themes focus on SDG 10 (equality), SDG 1 (Zero Poverty), and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). The subthemes include equity in the economy, including social security, housing, education, health and land.
The post-doctoral fellow will also expected to publish in accredited academic journals and attend as well as present in academic conferences. They will also assist with postgraduate supervision, research administration tasks and short courses. For a comprehensive view of the CSJ’s research areas see our website.
Requirements:
- A doctoral degree (LLD), which had to be obtained not prior to 1 March 2019, preferably on research relating to equality and/or human rights.
- The successful candidate may not hold any other full-time or part-time job at the same time and may not undertake any other work for remuneration.
- Good computer skills (MS Word, Internet research skills).
- Fluent (reading, writing and speaking) English; second and third languages are an advantage.
- The successful candidate must be able to work full-time in Stellenbosch for the duration of the fellowship.

The post-doctoral fellowship package includes:
- A fellowship of R250 000 for a year
- A working space
Please note that postdoctoral fellowships are awarded tax-free. However, the fellowship does not make an incumbent an employee and they are therefore not eligible for employee benefits.
